Staff Reporter: The SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and Phulki, an NGO, have joined hands entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 8 Ready-Made Garment factories of the country to advance a holistic approach for changing the behavior of workers, promoting hygiene practices, ensuring sanitary napkins at the workplace and building factory capacity to address Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM).
The signing ceremony took place today, July 3, 2019 in the capital Dhaka. The activity is funded by Weave our Future (WoF), a foundation of Auchan International.
The factories come forward with SNV and Phulki are Purbachol Apparel Ltd, Gardenia Wears, C&R Sweater, MT Sweater, Space sweater, Titas Sweater Ind Ltd., Meditex Ind Ltd. and Knit Concern Ltd.
The factory owners and representative of Auchan and WoF expressed their views and showed high level of commitment to serve the garments workers’ health issues.
Mr. Syful Mallick, representative of Weave our Future stated that MHM is the 2nd largest worker health relevant project next to health insurance. The foundation is committed to continue the support of the project initially for three (3) years.
The Team Leader of SNV RMG Program, Ms. Farahtheeba Rahat Khan said, “SNV piloted 10 models which have been successful and MHM model is one of them which are piloted with the support of Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands. Later Auchan foundation came to support health insurance and MHM model”.
She showed her highly gratitude for the generous support of WoF.
In the concluding remarks she thanked all the factory owners and management for their interest to serve the workers for the social cause and she also expects that other brands and buyers along with factory may bring a big change in the sector in future.
