Staff Correspondent: ‘GOTS Bangladesh Seminar 2019’ was successfully held in Dhaka, Bangladesh yesterday, 8th September 2019, at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).
With the theme “Connecting for Success”, the seminar was locally organized by RMG Times in which a total of 330 delegates from 6 different nations representing brands, buyers, CBs, factories, NGOs, INGOs, trade unions, media attended this year.
The formal program started with the welcome address from Mr. Sumit Gupta, Seminar Coordinator and Deputy Director, Standards Development & Quality Assurance-GOTS followed by 4 different sessions- Connecting Sustainable Retail: Stories from Fashion Industry, Technical Criteria and Implementation, Connecting on the Job: Workers and Management and Connecting Supply Chain Partners: Efficient Partnerships for Success.
The speakers and panelists clearly emphasized on the recent trends, priorities and experience from a buyer perspective who are sourcing from Bangladesh; clarity of technical aspects of the standard; the working conditions prevailed at the garment manufacturing companies in Bangladesh and also the importance of a harmonious relationship between workers and factory owners and lastly the challenges and opportunities of the supply chain.
GOTS representatives, speakers and panelists answered questions raised from the delegates.
Ms. Claudia Kersten, Managing Director- Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Mr. Rahul Bhajekar, Managing Director- GOTS, Mr. Otto Kersten, Protection Officer- GOTS, Ms. Prachi Gupta, Expert Quality Assurance & Impact-GOTS were present in the seminar.
The program came to a successful end with the vote of thanks to the local organizer, sponsors, speakers & panelists, attended delegates from different identities from Mr. Sumit Gupta.
